Utah Summer Games

We recently returned from a super fun trip to visit our families in Utah.  The Marchant side of the family all met down in Cedar City to participate in the Utah Summer Games.  Adam, his dad, his five brothers, and a friend played on a basketball team together.  Some of the kids and two of my sisters-in-law ran in track events, and Dwight (Adam's dad) swam a couple of races.  I didn't participate, but I cheered loud!!
My mother-in-law held a "junior olympics" for all the grandkids, too.  She obviously put in a ton of preparation, and it was a big success!  The kids all had a blast.

Grandma explains the "Hammer Throw"

The Cracker Race.  Each kid had to eat a cracker and then blow the whistle when they were done.  YUCK!

Ty took his time eating his cracker.  He didn't quite get the whole race idea!

The "Discus" throw

The Marchant guys playing ball

My boys did a great job at all the basketball games we hauled them to!

The Team:  Sean, Bry, Lucas, Greg, Adam, Dwight, and Spence.  Russ is missing because he was watching his son compete in another event.

My Athletic Boys!

No, Ty is not showing off his medal.  He is trying to rip it off his neck!

Grandpa won two gold medals in swimming!

Grandma and Grandpa brought a pinata for the kids.  So fun!

We had a blast playing in Cedar City.  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for making it happen!

He Did It!

McKay slept through the night for the first time last night--WAHOO!!  He slept from 11:30 last night until 7 this morning.  That equates to a pretty decent night of sleep for me!  Keep it up, little man!

Grammatical Errors

No, I am not an English major, but I have serious issues when people make grammatical errors.  I am sure I have made my share on this blog, too, so this may come back to haunt me, but here are the mistakes that drive me CRAZY!!

1.  When people say "a whole nother".  I hear this one a LOT.  What's a "nother" anyway, people?  The proper way to say this phrase is "another whole."
2.  Mixing up to/too/two.  I don't usually see the number (two) get mixed up as much as the others do.  "Too" means also.  "To" doesn't.
3.  Mixing up there/their/ they're.  "There" refers to location, as in to go over there.  "Their" is possessive, as in their house or their car.  "They're" is a contraction of they and are.  For example, they're going on vacation.
4.  Improper use of apostrophes.  This is probably my number one pet peeve.  I can't stand it that people throw in an apostrophe any time a word ends in the letter "s".  I was visiting my parents' ward yesterday, and there was a basket in the mothers' room that said, "Mom's Helping Mom's."  ???   That translates to "Mom is Helping Mom is."  See how little sense that makes?  An apostrophe should be used to show possession, as in "Mom's shirt," indicating that shirt belongs to mom.  It should also be used for contractions when the word "is" is being included with another word.  Example:  "Mom's silly."  An apostrophe should NOT be used anytime a word ends in the letter "s".  Please.  Don't.

And that's all for my venting today.  Please feel free to correct my grammar anytime.  I welcome it!!

Ty Turns Two!

Wow.  I can not believe how quickly time flies!!  My baby is two today!  Yesterday, Ty got a package in the mail that was practically as big as he is, from Grandma and Grandpa Marchant.  He had a blast opening all the presents.  Thanks for all the fun clothes, jammies, puzzles, and toys, Grandma and Grandpa!

We decided not to have a birthday party for Ty this year, but I did make him so baseball cupcakes to share with his friends at playgroup this morning.  Of course I forgot my camera.
When Dad got home from work, Ty got to open MORE presents from us.  He was loving ripping all that paper!

Tonight is our ward's father and son camp out, so Adam took Ty to that.  Happy Birthday to ME--I think McKay and I are going to watch a chick flick tonight!
We love you so much Ty.  The past two years have been so much fun as we have watched you grow.  You are such a sweet boy!  Happy birthday!

Picnic in the Park

Since we had so many people here for McKay's blessing, we decided our best course of action would be to do lunch at the park after church today.  It was a great idea, but we didn't plan for bad weather.  It was super windy, and we got rained out.  Darn it.

Remember how I said it was super windy?  Hence my nasty hair.

My parents wanted to celebrate Ty's birthday while they were here since he will be turning two this week.  My mom bought a huge sheet cake for him.  We were planning on doing that at the park, too, but we had to change locales once the rain started.  Back to the afore-mentioned tiny apartment.
Ty was not so sure about everyone singing to him

A Baby Blessed

What a whirlwind weekend this has been!  We blessed McKay today, and we had a lot of family that was able to be here with us.  My parents and two younger brothers drove into town on Thursday night, and my sister and her fiancee followed on Friday.  Yesterday, Adam's two younger brothers flew in, too.  My grandma, uncle, aunt, and two cousins came down from the north side of Denver to be with us today, as well.  It has been WILD and SO MUCH FUN to have everyone here.  We have had a blast, but it has been cramped with all those people in our tiny 9oo sq. ft. apartment!
Adam gave a beautiful blessing to our sweet baby today.  What a special little boy he is!  I feel so blessed to have him as a part of our family. Doesn't Mac look handsome in his little tux?

Promptly after this photo was taken, Ty passed a little basketball to McKay, which hit him square in the face.  Photo shoot over.

Lunchtime!!

A hot dog
A slice of bread
A string cheese
About 15 grapes
A handful of goldfish crackers
Several strawberries
A yogurt
A box of raisins

This was lunch today for my son.  If he eats like this when he is two, how will we afford to feed him as a teenager?!
