Swimming

Last Tuesday, we had a beautiful day here in Colorado. Some of our friends invited us to the pool at their apartment complex and we went for a swim. It was Ty's first time ever swimming! I was a little worried that Ty wouldn't like it all that much. For one thing, it was warm, but not THAT warm. I thought he would get cold and fussy. To my surprise, he loved it! He was splashing, laughing and talking. Who knew that I had a little fishy? I am excited for this summer. I think we are going to have a lot of fun days at the pool!

The Stinker-ness of Ty, Part 2

I have been having a serious problem with Ty over the last couple of weeks. It used to be that when I put him down for his nap, he would go right to sleep. Now, he will pull himself up on the side of his crib , walk to the window, and maul the blinds. No matter how many times I go into his room to put him back down, he continues to pull up and refuses to sleep. I have had to rock him in order for him to fall asleep. I HATE that we are getting into such a bad habit, but I don't know what else to do.
The stinker avoiding his nap

A couple of days ago, I left Ty in his bedroom for literally not more than 3 minutes while I went to the bathroom. When I came back, I found him with his favorite book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. There was a hole bitten out of the first page! I did the finger swipe of his mouth, but, alas, it was already gone! I shudder to think how much paper my child has ingested in ten months.
Can you see the bite mark? Right there on the L.

So, I am doing my best to maintain my sanity as my child continues to get into EVERYTHING! I keep reminding myself that this is normal, that he is just curious, and that it won't be this way forever. Still, some moments are more trying than others!

A Great Week

Ok, it's official. I have been a blogging slacker. I feel like I have a pretty good excuse though, and that is that my family was here in Colorado all of last week. It was a blast! We toured the US mint, we played at the park, we shopped the outlet malls in Castle Rock, we played the $2 game, we ate a lot, we played many dice and board games, and we basically just had lots of fun! It was really sad for me when they left on Saturday morning, kind of like the feeling on Christmas after the last present is opened. I just love my family so much! They were so cute with Ty, too. Grammie and Tooge were always trying to sneak him some sort of junk food, and he loved playing with Zach and Matt. I am already looking forward to June when we will be able to be together again!
So, you would think that with all the fun activities we did last week, I would have all sorts of great pictures to post. Unfortunately, in addition to being a blogging slacker, I was also a photo slacker! I was only able to get one picture of Ty with his grammie on Saturday morning before my camera battery died. So, just know that it was a good week, despite the lack of documentation!!

Holy Popcorn!

On Saturday night, Ty and I had some friends over to watch Enchanted while the guys were at the priesthood session of conference. We made some kettle corn, and Ty kept trying to reach into the bowl to take a handful of it. When I wasn't looking, he dumped the bowl out and began shoving as much as he could in his mouth! I had to take a couple of pictures before I confiscated it!

Fruit Pizza

We don't have BYU TV included in our cable package, so our friends Jeff and Kim Sucher were kind enough to let us watch conference at their house this weekend. Since we were intruding for 8 hours between Saturday and Sunday, I thought the least I could do would be to make a yummy treat to share. I had never made a fruit pizza before, but I thought it would be fun to try. I was really pleased with the way it turned out! It was actually relatively easy to do, and quite fun to decorate! It's kind of pretty, huh?

RECIPE:

Ingredients
  • 1 (18 ounce) package refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • Several different types of fruit

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Slice cookie dough and arrange on greased pizza pan, overlapping edges. Press dough flat into pan. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Allow to cool.
  2. In a large bowl, soften cream cheese, then fold in the whipped topping. Spread over cooled crust. You can chill for a while at this point, or continue by arranging the fruit.
  3. Begin with strawberries, sliced in half. Arrange in a circle around the outside edge. Continue with fruit of your choice, working towards the middle. If bananas are used, dip them in lemon juice so they don't darken.
